Kaldnes K1 MBBR Bio Filter Media for Pond and Wastewater Treatment
Kaldnes K1 MBBR bio media is a plastic carrier pellet that gives microorganisms a stable surface to attach to in biological treatment tanks, raising the efficiency of the tank and of the whole wastewater system. In practice it acts as the habitat for the microbial population and is made from plastic that remains stable in wastewater environments.
Kaldnes K1 MBBR media is built to circulate freely through the treatment zone, kept in constant random motion by the air lift and circulation pumps. This suspended biological carrier — known as BIOCELL — is produced from modified polymer with bio-enzyme additives, which boosts enzymatic catalysis. The result is a larger specific surface, fast biofilm formation, film that does not slough off easily, strong denitrification, good hydrophilicity and high biological activity. The continuous motion lets the media self-clean: trapped debris is scrubbed away and aging bacteria are displaced by younger, more active colonies. Constant exposure to oxygen-rich water further accelerates nitrification, raising the volume of ammonia and nitrite the bacteria on the media can process.
K1 MBBR media ranks among the most thoroughly documented biological solutions for ponds, aquariums and wastewater. It is especially effective in discus breeding tanks and fry-growing tanks, because the constant movement of K1 media strips ammonia and nitrate far faster than static media — allowing higher-protein feeding schedules without degrading water quality.

K1 MBBR Media Specifications
Tamanho:The K1 media size is at 10mm x 7mm. There are other models of the bio media (i.e. K3 and K5) that are comparatively bigger.Cor:While there are bio media that comes in different colors, our K1 Media is in white. It changes color over time due to the growth of the bacteria. The white color helps with visibility.
Dosing:The dosing ration of this bio media is a wide range from 15% to 68%.
Material:We have K1 media filter made from High-Density Polyethylene or HDPE as it is known. The material is commonly found in water bottles, pipes and plastic lumbers.
It has high density character and can withstand temperatures. With this media it has an applicable temperature 65 °C.

Applications of Kaldnes K1 MBBR Bio Media
Kaldnes K1 micro MBBR bio media serves domestic wastewater plants as well as industrial effluent from pharmaceuticals, electroplating, chemicals, printing, textile dyeing, metallurgy and food processing. In aquarium and aquaculture filtration it is often sold under the name Kaldnes filter grain.
In wastewater projects where capacity must grow without civil construction, operators dose additional carrier media into the biological stage — raising the contact density between microorganisms and carrier material to lift overall treatment efficiency.
