Cooling Tower Drift Eliminator
A cooling tower drift eliminator is an essential component designed to minimize water loss and protect both equipment and the environment. During cooling tower operation, air movement can carry small water droplets, known as drift, out of the system. These droplets may contain dissolved minerals, treatment chemicals, and microorganisms that can cause corrosion, scaling, or health risks. The drift eliminator captures and removes these droplets from the air stream, directing the water back into the tower and reducing drift emissions to extremely low levels. Drift eliminators work on the principle of inertial separation. As the airflow passes through multi-angled passages, droplets are forced to change direction, collide with surfaces, and coalesce. The collected water then returns to the circulating system by gravity, ensuring effective water recovery without significantly increasing air resistance.
Cooling Tower Drift Eliminator Modules use a tightly-spaced series of sinusoidal-shaped, PVC (or HPVC) blades that force the leaving air to make 3 distinct changes of direction, resulting in maximum drift droplet removal. But this performance does not come at the expense of fan energy, as the engineered flow through the Drift Eliminator achieves very low pressure drop.

Working Principle
Drift eliminators operate on the principle of inertial separation. As the air passes through the eliminator’s multi-pass channels, water droplets are forced to change direction. Due to inertia, the droplets impact the blade or cellular surfaces, coalesce into a film, and then return to the cooling water system by gravity. This process significantly reduces drift emission without restricting airflow.
