K5 MBBR Bio Filter Media – 1200 m2/m3 Wheel-Shaped Biofilm Carrier
K5 bio filter media features a protected wheel-shaped structure with a preserved surface area of roughly 1200 m2 per m3, which is why it is often called K5 Micro filter media. It is engineered for bead filters, standard pond filters and aquarium systems, and its geometry gives nitrifying bacteria an ideal colonizing environment.
The MBBR process works on the biofilm principle: a measured dose of suspended carrier elements is dosed into the bioreactor to raise both biomass concentration and microbial diversity, which directly lifts treatment performance. Because the carrier density is close to that of water, the media mixes fully with the liquid during aeration, giving microorganisms simultaneous contact with gas, liquid and solid phases. As carriers collide and shear against each other in the water, air bubbles are split finer, which raises oxygen transfer efficiency.
K5 media was developed specifically for bead filters, conventional pond filters and aquarium systems. Every piece carries the characteristic wheel-shaped profile that gives the media a protected surface area of roughly 1200 m2 per m3 — a geometry often referred to as K5 Micro filter media, designed to create the most favorable conditions for nitrification. Bacteria settle into the protected zones of each wheel and drive both nitrification and denitrification, helping the pond hold a stable biological balance so fish stay healthy and the water stays clear.

1. The sludge concentration in the reactor is high, which is 5-10 times higher than that of the conventional activated sludge process, greatly accelerating the reaction speed.
2. Small head loss, not easy to block, no need for back washing, generally no need for return flow.
3. The suspended packing makes the nitrification and denitrification process go on at the same time, which can remove nitrogen and phosphorus well. COD removal rate up to 90%
4. The impact load resistance is very strong, which can resist large water impact load and maintain stable treatment effect in the actual project.
5. The service life shall be at least 20 years.
6. Low management cost.
7. Strong low temperature resistance. In low temperature environment, MBBR can also ensure a very high removal rate of ammonia nitrogen, and the effluent ammonia nitrogen can reach the standard stably.
